School Violence

To be honest, I don't think this article relates to anything going on around here. I can definitely understand the statistics like The average American child lives in a house with 2.9 TVs, 1.8 VCRs, 3.1 radios, 2.6 tape players, 2.1 CD players and a computer. Forty-two percent of American homes are "constant TV households," meaning that a set is on most of the time. The average American watches television about four hours per day, and it consumes 40 percent of his or her free time, but nothing else really matches up, like 1 out of 10 people don't find life is worth living. I know that every single one of my friends think life is worth living. Also, while reading this, it reminded me of reading many of the articles from Critical Thinking, mostly because most of them were about school shooters, and many of the facts were similar, such as a school shooter doesn't have an exact profile. I definitely think that if someone told their friend "I'm going to shoot at people tomorrow," I would be scared, and probably wouldn't tell either just because I don't want to be shot...The best thing to do is to leave an anonymous tip to the school officials.

I think the kid should be brought to kid jail, because it has more to offer, like help. Adult jail just lets you stay in your cell and think about what you did. He should definitely be sentenced for   a long time, but he just needs someone to help him and get some counseling.  If he is 17 and is a sophomore, he definitely needs help learning and probably many people made fun of him for this. The story doesn't say anything about his family though, so I can't really tell what was going on at his home.

  1. Do you think adults or students at SPHS could do more to prevent bullying?

  2. Yes, I do. I think that adults should pay more attention to the quiet kids and when a student says a nasty comment, the adult should scold them. Kids should realize the boundaries. I should too. We should have a day regarding bullying.

  3. I agree with Lauren about this case. I think if someone told be that they were going to shoot the school I would be very scared and wouldn't know what to do about it. Also I agree with her about that the boy should go to jail. He can get the help that he needs to deal with whatever made him do this and keep his town and people safe from himself.

  4. When you said that the average American family has all of those electronics, i agreed with you. Americans are so greedy and have so many electronics that they don't need. I also agree with Paige and Lauren on the situation of if someone told be that they were going to shoot someone that they would be scared. That is not something I would take lightly, if I were told that I would be scared.
